Second Look Event

Come visit us in Roanoke! Join us on Saturday, February 7th, 2026 to learn more about our program, meet our faculty & residents, tour our facilities, and explore Roanoke.

This event will include tours of our clinics and the hospital, as well as informal social time with department leadership, faculty, and residents.

 

In the event you have prior obligations during our Second Look Event on February 7, 2026, we welcome you to the area and invite you to participate in a self-guided tour.

  • Mill Mountain Star

    • A quirky Roanoke must-see!

  • Wasena Park & Roanoke River Greenway

    • Take a stroll or play on the playground!

  • Highland Park

    • Playground, 9-hole disc golf course, & sports fields 

  • Center in the Square

    • Includes the Harrison Museum of African American Culture, Kids Square Museum, Mill Mountain Theatre, Roanoke Pinball Museum, Roanoke STARCADE, and the Science Museum

  • Farmer’s Market

  • Black Dog Salvage

    • Fun antiques, restored furniture, and local goods

  • And of course, hiking: all addresses take you to the trailhead

    • Mill Mountain Star Trail:

      • Hike to the Star instead of driving to it!

      • 3.3 miles out-and-back; easy/moderate

      • 9 minute drive from downtown Roanoke

    • Dragon’s Tooth:

      • 4.5 miles out-and-back; difficult

      • 24 minute drive from downtown Roanoke

      • This hike is not recommended for dogs or small children – some minor rock scrambling involved

    • McAfee’s Knob:

      • 7.8 miles out-and-back; moderately difficult

      • 18 minute drive from downtown Roanoke

      • Fun fact: McAfee’s Knob is the most photographed spot along the Appalachian Trail.

    • Hay Rock

      • 7.7 miles out-and-back (but can make it as short as 4.5 – once you reach the ridgeline and start seeing Carvin’s Cove water reservoir, the overlooks all look similar from that point); moderate

      • 15 minute drive from downtown Roanoke

      • Awesome for sunset
