Pre-Interview Paint Night
What to Expect
...and what to do with that canvas!
Paint night...huh?! It’s more like a paint and chill night, think Bob Ross kind of vibes. The evening before your interview, you'll have the opportunity to meet with some of our residents. This casual environment gives you the chance to laugh and have fun while learning more about our program!​ Most of the residents will be eating dinner/unwinding from the day so please feel free to do the same.

This is a great time to ask questions you may have about residency life, opportunities within our program and at Carilion, and Roanoke living. Whether it's the Academic Track, vacation requests, or Roanoke's school systems, our residents are ready to share all!

Make sure to have your paint supplies ready, cameras turned on, and plan to log on 5 minutes or so early in case you need to work out microphone/video problems. The first 10-15 minutes will be about introductions; the night is led by a resident and hopefully we’ll have 2-4 others online as well. Feel free to include kids, significant others, and even furry friends in this as we’d love to meet your crew! After that, we’ll pick a paint theme for the night and start painting. The theme can range anywhere from holiday ideas, favorite hobbies, "if I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be…" and of course, happy trees. Typically the painting is done in a break-out room (arranged by the lead resident) with 3-6 applicants in a room alongside residents. After 20 minutes, we’ll switch break-out rooms. That way, y'all can meet all of the residents online and see why we’re in health care instead of art museums. We’ll wrap up after an hour and close by showcasing our creations to each other and taking a group photo.

We can't stress enough how we want this night to be to be fun. Roanoke, this residency, and the patients we’re able to serve are our home and second family; to say that we’re eager to meet the next generation is an understatement. So, get excited for a good time, and remember NO experience is needed. Please know that we'd love to meet you in person, but we appreciate you bringing the fun virtually.
